Is it automatic to have drug charges if you were only in the vehicle in Florida?

My 21 year old son made a poor choice on a ride home and got charged with marijuana possession (under 20g). The owner of the vehicle and girlfriend are still incarcerated and my son has been released. I am wondering if there is any hope of this charge being tossed or is he "guilty by ociation".?
