What was the change in the US from the plessy vs. ferguson case?
Well, to continue from what the user above me was saying - yes, separate but equal was the main conclusion that the Supreme Court came to at the end of the case. However, the challenge remained - who and what determined equality in this case? As you probably know, separate but equal almost never meant equal. In fact, the conditions for African Americans were a lot worse than those for white Americans. So the change in the U.S. was clear - it was acceptable to exclude African Americans from daily life, without providing them with equal facilities or means of getting by. These failures of the American government to provide for all its citizens would later be attacked by W.E.B DuBois, who in 1909 formed the NAACP in order to challenge such court cases, voting statures, and other political disadvantages for the African Americans.
